Opus Group (NW) Ltd is a privately owned group of businesses specialising in utilities, traffic management, and aggregate recycling solutions, based in Warrington, Cheshire. Working primarily in the power sector, Opus also offers multi-utility services to other sectors such as gas and water. Serving industrial, commercial, and residential clients, the company provides a full service from excavation, duct installation, and cable laying to jointing and final reinstatement.
Opus had previously used a bespoke system, Aurora, to manage its contracts. However, as Aurora became restrictive to expansion and the business grew, the company realised it needed to quickly introduce a more comprehensive and up-to-date work management system. When searching for a new system, they shortlisted three different solutions, but Depotnet met the requirements across a broad range of departments. It featured a robust reporting function and was developed by industry professionals with first-hand experience, making it a perfect fit for Opus’ business.
“We’d outgrown our original work management system. It just didn’t provide the level of automation we needed, especially in crucial areas like real-time reporting and data integration,” said Jason Singleton, Head of Operations, Opus Utility Solutions. “It was clear straight away that Depotnet provided everything we needed, but we were worried about the daunting task of switching systems.”
To minimise disruption, Opus aimed to implement the new system as quickly as possible. In November 2024, the company agreed on a plan to roll out Depotnet nationwide in just six weeks, starting in January 2025. Given the ambitious schedule, Depotnet provided a dedicated system implementation team, including one full-time expert working on-site at Opus.
